잘 지냈어요? ~ is it rude or disgusting? Because once I said this and a Korean told me that my Korean is so rude and disgusting. I am a beginner and its hurt me a lot and now I scared to talk with Koreans. 😞 I know it's mean How are you? Is it really rude, informal?

"잘 지냈어요?" is a perfect expression!!
"잘 지내셨어요?" will be more formal
Don't be afraid of making mistakes, this will make your korean better!!

@bbeatrix: I think it's because 잘 지냈어요 is a way to adress friends and familly. If you said this to a stranger or someone you don't really know he could have think you were too familiar with him i guess...

If you want to say "How are you?" to stranger, then you can just use "안녕하세요?"

Nope, it's not rude at all.
Don't be frustrated, you're doing well!
Technically "잘 지냈어요?" is "How have you been?" and "How are you" is "안녕하세요", "잘 지내요?" is "Are you doing well?"

I was told Koreans don't use this expression with people they don't know or meet for the first time. Usually you ask "잘 지냈어요?" to a friend you haven't seen in some time.
Don't worry I made the same mistake and did even worse (like talking informal to older people) without knowing it, but fortunately people understood I could get wrong. So don't mind him and don't be scared :) Good luck !
