like を使った表現のほうが自然ですね。

What is 〜 like というのを直訳すると、「何みたいですか・何のようですか」という言い回しですが、要は「どんなものですか」という意味です。

How is your girlfriend?　→　彼女は元気ですか？・調子はどうですか？（good/bad で返ってくる）
What is your girlfriend like?　→　彼女はどんな人ですか？（うちの妻と付き合ってすぐの頃に実際に母にこう聞かれたことがあります。）

How is Easter in the US?　→　アメリカの復活祭、どう？（good/badで返ってくる。例えば、「It's nice. I like it.」）
What is Easter like in the US?　→　アメリカの復活祭はどんなもの？
