İngilizce (ABD) hakkında soru

What's the difference between these 2 sentences?

- I prefer to spend my vacation in countryside.

- I prefer to spend my vacation in the countryside.

I know "countryside" is an uncountable noun, so it can be used without a/the, like sentence 1.

I also feel that "the" in "the countryside" is not expressing something specific(like “the gym”?), so "the countryside"(sentence 2) is general too? like sentence 1? confused.

Thank you! :)
