I'm sorry - I didn't read the question correctly. In this case the defendants were pleading guilty, which means they are NOT contesting the charges - they admit at least some part of the charges are true. They would plead 'innocent' if they claim they did not do it.

@ullean01 So if someone pleads guilty, it means that person admits what he/she has done, whereas when someone pleads innocent, it means that person does not admit what he/she has done?

@Keqing That is correct. Although technically, in a court of law, one pleads "guilty" or "not guilty" (rather than "innocent") - I'm not sure why the distinction...
