Leverage.

How can I use it (as the noun and as the verb)?
I've had a big struggles with this word. And I guess I still can use it wrong.

We need to leverage our technical skills as well as our customer service skills. We should be solving problems more efficiently.

We have leverage over them because we have 10 hostages. Tell them we want a ransom payment of 1 million dollars.

@oryxo And what does it means in the 1st sentence and in the 2nd?
It's so difficult for me, we don't have this word in our language even an alternative.
It's kinda advantage? Or control?
Translator says - the system of levers 🤦🏻‍♂️

@alejandroelj Think about a lever, it allows you to move more weight than you could with your bare hands. So to have leverage means you 'hold more cards' in a negotiation, you have more power than you otherwise would have (without the hostages for example). To have leverage in a negotiation means you have a lot to offer, or a lot to threaten them with.

When you 'leverage' something, you use it like a lever to gain more output (move more weight) than you otherwise would. If you leverage your 'people-skills' it means you use your 'people-skills' to their full capacity, to make more friends or to get more clients because you are friendly to them. It means to make full use of.

With a verb I still have difficulties, it's really still above my comprehension, I'm not sure where I can use it, it's like I don't have enough of triggers in my mind about it

@alejandroelj No problem. The good news is it's very rare to use it as a verb, and it can be seen as 'manager-speak' or, to say something to sound smart when really you haven't said much at all, or achieved anything.

The noun form is useful and used more often.
