Does the word “unrecommended” sound formal, informal, or neutral?
I’m thinking of using this word on this app. For example, in a “does this sound natural” question, is it ok to say something like “that phrase sounds a bit rude and is unrecommended. “
I’m wondering if this wording would sound just fine, or too formal or a bit bossy, or maybe just unnatural and unrecommended.

"unrecommended" doesn't really feel like a (standard, pre-existing) word to me? There's nothing stopping it from being a word I guess but I never hear it. Obviously people will understand what you mean but I'd just say "is not recommended".
