A: On: for pretty much everything besides a car or truck.

In: cars and trucks always. Also other, rarer forms of transport like canoes, kayaks, or carriages; you can also use “in” with “in a train car” because it refers to the train CAR rather than the actual train that a person is on.

She is in the car.
We rode in the truck.
The couple arrived in a horse-drawn carriage.
At the lake, my sister followed me in a canoe.

Etc.
